What are the facilities that are available to the children?
On-site facilities include a sports hall, fitness suite, extensive playing fields, football pitch, netball courts, basketball courts, and tennis courts. The Priory Mile cross country course is an integral part of our 14 acres of grounds.
Off-site facilities include the use of squash courts and the swimming pool at the adjacent Edgbaston Priory Club
How are sports and physical education set within the school’s curriculum?
At Priory School, sports and physical education are a cornerstone of the curriculum, blending academic excellence with athletic development in a supportive and inspiring environment
In Early Years, the curriculum focuses on –
In Prep, the KS1 focus is on developing fundamental movement skills and building confidence through a variety of physical activities. For KS2 the emphasis shifts to applying and refining a broader range of skills, with a stronger focus on competition, collaboration, and self-improvement.
In Seniors, all pupils have Core PE in KS3, where applying and refining a broader range of skills, with a stronger focus on competition, collaboration, and self-improvement is central. Our afternoon games programme helps to enhance performance. In KS4 the emphasis shifts to promoting lifelong fitness and healthy lifestyles.
The Sixth form have Core PE at the same time as Year 11 in addition to the use of the gym at the Priory Tennis Club
What is a typical PE lesson like in Prep or Seniors?
Our PE curriculum introduces pupils to the core principles and skills of major sports, in full alignment with the national curriculum. Lessons are inclusive, active, and designed to build physical literacy in a fun and supportive environment.

Priory School offers an exceptional range of sporting opportunities, both through its curriculum and extracurricular programs, supported by world-class facilities and partnerships. The PE department is in line for the Platinum School Games Mark, after previously earning four Golds. Pupils regularly compete in regional and national tournaments in a range of Sports.

What are the extra-curricular (after school or at break / lunch) and super-curricular (weekends, non-term time and residentials) at Priory School?
Priory School runs a strong and vibrant extracurricular programme throughout the academic year, offering students a wide range of opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills, and build confidence outside the classroom.
Recent super-curricular events have included a netball trip to Paris and participation in the Gothia Cup.
Extracurricular Clubs
The school offers a Prep and Senior Curricular Club Programme, which includes a variety of clubs across sports. These clubs are designed to complement the academic curriculum and foster creativity, teamwork, and leadership.
Which GCSE, A level and Sports Leader qualifications and awards are on offer?
We currently offer GCSE PE and Sports leadership through the SSGO programme. We have staff qualified to teach A Level PE.
Who are your established partners?
The Priory Tennis Club and the Edgbaston Cricket club are key partners providing access to swimming, racquet sports coaching and sixth form gym access in addition to free access to high profile cricket and tennis events.

We offer a uniquely tailored academic programme for sporting scholars who train with premier league football teams. Past and current pupils have secured full time professional contracts with Birmingham City, Aston Villa and we have supported county level cricketers, PGA golfers and an under 18 tennis Olympian.
