Posted on November 20, 2018

As part of the English Department curriculum, Year 8 visited the national Memorial Arboretum in Staffordshire, in order to enhance their understanding of the poetry of World War I. Students’ attended a Poppy workshop to gain valuable insight into the history and significance of the Poppy and its role as our national symbol of remembrance. They also had a tour of many of the significant memorials including the poignant ‘Shot at Dawn’ statue commemorating those who had been shot for desertion. At the end of the day students conducted their own memorial service in honour of those who died.
