2My name is Simon Taylor and I am the Chairperson of the Parents’ Association, ‘Friends of Priory’ (FOP). The FOP is a team of committed parents and staff from all areas of the school who organise community events such as BBQs, Garden Parties, Christmas and Summer Fayres and our annual Bonfire Night extravaganza in order to raise funds for projects in and around the school and its grounds. In the past, the children have asked for the televisions that you see around the school, the multi-gym and also the new lighting system in the main hall; it has all been done by the FOP, children, staff, Facilities and you as parents.
I served as a Medic in the Royal Air Force, and then as a Ministry of Defence Civilian Instructor based in Aldershot and then finally at Selly Oak Hospital as an Exams & Standards Officer. Unfortunately whilst I was serving in the Military I became injured and I was medically discharged. However, using my communication skills, self-motivation and being trained in implementing innovative solutions to address challenges and opportunities I feel I am able to bring a wealth of experience to help FOP evolve and to form a community of which will benefit us all. I suffer from Nerve Root Damage and constant Neuropathic Pain but I still manage to volunteer my time to help.
My reason for joining the FOP was simple – raising invaluable funds for the school, being part of a community, and a great way to meet new parents whilst helping the school. How could I not?
Like everyone else, time is tight, we all have other commitments after school and in the evening but without the support of the parents and staff then there would be no Friends of Priory. We would like to recruit new parents from both senior and prep to join with immediate effect and would welcome any hours you could volunteer as well as any ideas you have to help running the annual events like Bonfire Night, the Summer Fayre & Musical nights, along with fundraisers. Everyone has different talents and skills that they can bring to FOP, so everyone is welcome!
It would not be a huge commitment, only a few hours at events and the option to attend FOP meetings (approx every 8-10 weeks) for an hour.
We all want our school to be the very best. The most effective way is to join the Friends of Priory and get involved in the life of the school. It’s not just our children and school that benefit, you might find that you end up involved in a lot of fun too!
If you would like to discuss further then please do not hesitate to contact me via email or telephone.
I look forward to hearing from you!
