Looking to the future

Why we need your support

“I have such lovely memories of the nuns and lay teachers who taught me.  They were dedicated and inspirational. I loved the emphasis on each child having their own special abilities and developing a caring school. The things I learned lasted a lifetime.”

Former pupil

Since its establishment in 1936 here in Edgbaston, Priory School (formerly known as Holy Child) has continued to provide an exceptional educational experience for its pupils, nurturing each child’s special talents, both within and beyond the classroom, and fostering a strong sense of care and mutual respect for fellow pupils and staff.

In the 21st century Priory School, now a flourishing co-educational establishment, has a clear vision for the future. We wish to:

  • Expand the opportunities for more children to benefit from a Priory education, regardless of their financial circumstances
  • Enhance the educational experience of our pupils through the development of our facilities

Fee income alone simply will not finance our vision and we therefore seek the support of friends - past, present and future - who wish to play a significant part in ensuring Priory School continues to thrive.

There are many ways to support Priory School and all gifts, no matter how small or large, will make an enormous difference.

The Cornelia Connelly Fund

We are committed to ensuring that no worthy child is refused entry to Priory School because of their family’s financial circumstances.

Following the abolition of the Government-funded Assisted Places Scheme, we launched our own Scholarships and Supported Places Scheme to widen access to Priory School.

However, the funds for such a scheme are limited and every year we can only support a handful of the many eligible candidates who apply.

By making a donation towards the scheme you will be helping to shape the future, ensuring many more pupils benefit from a Priory education, as previous generations have done.

Some supporters offer a one-off donation whilst others like to give to our fund on a regular basis.  We would also be delighted to hear from any individual or organisation who wishes to establish a specific named award with either a gift of capital for endowment or revenue for long-term funding.

Whatever your preference your donation towards our Scholarships and Supported Places scheme will be most sincerely appreciated.

Facilities Fund

The Governors and staff at Priory School are committed to providing our pupils with the finest facilities available for a 21st century education.  Careful management of our finances ensure that we have a rolling programme of activity to update our facilities.

However, fee income alone does not allow us to fund all the projects, large and small, on our wish list!  Nevertheless, with the generous support of former pupils, staff and parents we can enhance the opportunities on offer to pupils.

This year, the fantastic fundraising achievements of the Friends of Priory School (the Parents Association) have helped us purchase new portable goalposts for the football teams as well as essential equipment for the Forest School sessions.

Many people, especially former pupils, like to donate to departments which have a special meaning for them.  So we do offer the opportunity for your donation to be solely for the use of:

  • Teaching and Learning
  • Sport
  • The Performing Arts

Donations to the Facilities fund are not used for routine maintenance.

For more details of the projects available to fund please contact Julie O’Hare at the school on 0121 440 4103.

Ways of giving

All donations, large or small, are sincerely appreciated by Priory School and there are many ways you can support us:

  • Make a one-off donation by cheque, credit or debit card
  • Set up a regular gift via Standing Order

Gift Aid it!

If you area UK taxpayer you can increase the value of your donation to Priory School by nearly a third with no cost to yourself.  The Gift Aid scheme allows us to reclaim the tax you have already paid to HM Revenue and Customs.  So this means that if you donate £10 through the Gift Aid scheme, we can claim an extra £2.50 on that donation.  All you have to do is sign a Gift Aid Declaration Form when you make your donation giving us permission to claim the tax back.  It really is that simple.

There are many other tax effective ways to support us including Give as You Earn (donating through your payroll), donations of shares or assets, leaving a gift to the school in your will and corporate giving.   For more information on tax effective giving visit http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/individuals/giving/basics.htm

If you would like to make a donation or would be interested in a confidential discussion about ways of supporting the school over a long-term period please contact Julie O’Hare on 0121 440 4103.
