Biology as an impact on every aspect of our lives, whether
it is about genetically modified food, diseases or cloning - the
issues are inescapable. It is an exciting subject where
you will discover so much that is useful, relevant and
thought provoking.
We offer AS and A2 Biology with OCR
modular course using a variety of teaching/learning methods
which enables each student to reach their highest potential.
We also offer students the opportunity to study a unit
of a first degree course from the Open University and
our students regularly rise to this challenge.

Business
Studies
|
|
 |
As
countries become more globalised business faces more
competition from all areas. This competition affects
students directly where jobs are concerned.
Most of the students will work for a business in
some capacity and may even go on to open their own
business.
Business Studies A level gives an excellent introduction to the world of business, both in terms of academic theory and practice. Most students will work for a business in some capacity at a point in their lives and Business Studies provides a detailed knowledge and understanding of the issues faced by modern business and workers in a hi-tech world of globalisation.
You do not need to have a GCSE in Business Studies to start the A level course. It is assumed that it is a new subject for all the students and all the information is explained in detail.

Chemistry
|
|
 |
Chemistry
has the highest "currency" of all A levels - its
kudos is greater than its difficulty. Studying it in
Priory School involves so many skills that it generates
an all-round student: it is analytical, investigative,
numerical, practical, symbolic and requires computer
literacy.
The Priory School course is not solely aimed at
Chemical or Medicinal studies at University, for
which it is essential. Instead it emphasises understanding
and evaluating rather than amassing information.
Lessons consist of practical work, formal teaching,
interactive class discussion, group work, ICT approaches
and exercises.

ICT
|
|
 |
So
why do ICT A level at Priory school? It will be a
great career to be part of, particularly for girls, and
as
a route to higher education. Digital media plays
an increasingly vital part in our lives, study and work.
We
cannot predict what new developments will appear
in
ICT in the next few years, let alone in your lifetime.
We
do know it will be exciting, challenging and, perhaps,
intimidating - and we know that you will need
to understand
it and be able to use it, if only to future-proof
your technical skills.

Mathematics
|
|
 |
Mathematics is essential to modern day living in a variety
of ways. Every time we open a newspaper or watch the
television we are bombarded with information, often presented
mathematically. We aim to ensure that students can use
Mathematics to its fullest extent, to further their progress
in other subjects, but principally to ENJOY THEMSELVES!!
Most girls will either study for Advanced GCE Mathematics (A2 level) or Advanced Subsidiary Mathematics (AS level). The A2 level consists of four core pure Mathematics modules and two applications modules, one in Statistics and one in Mechanics. Statistics is important for Biology, whereas Mechanics is important for Physics.

Physical
Education
|
|
 |
Physical Education is an important part of life at Priory School. Pupils
follow a varied P.E. programme which includes netball, hockey, swimming, gymnastics, tennis, athletics, badminton, football and cross country. The facilities include a gymnasium, tennis and netball courts and the newly opened Priory Mile Course. The facilities are enhanced by links with The Edgbaston Priory Club, The Birmingham University Munrow Centre and the Birmingham Sports Centre.

Physics
|
|
 |
Physics
is a subject that aims to explain everything. Studying
Physics makes you a Scientist, Mathematician, Engineer
and Philosopher all in one. The wide range of techniques
covered mean all University courses welcome students
with good A-levels in Physics, as it is the sign of
a hard-working and well-rounded student.
Initially the topics covered are laboratory based,
building on GCSE and giving explanations behind familiar
laws, formulae
and effects. A section on Medical Physics gives insight
into the scanning and treatment techniques used in
hospitals. At A2 the work becomes more abstract, looking
at the Universe
in more general terms.

Psychology
|
|
 |
Psychology is a fascinating and rewarding subject that is sought after by many disciplines. However, it is not an easy subject, it takes commitment, hard work and lots of dedication in order to be successful at understanding mind and behaviour.
Psychology at A level is an ideal introduction to a degree course or alternatively a subject which complements many other A level subjects as well. Psychologists work in most major sectors, ranging from the Criminal and Forensic Psychologists working closely with the Police and Criminal Justice System to Clinical Psychologists treating mental disorders. There are a plethora of vocational opportunities including professional Chartered Psychologists through to Teaching and Researching Psychologists.
