Senior School
From September 2007 girls and boys from 11 onwards Girls only 12 -16 yrs

From September 2007 accepted boys into Year 7 for the first time and by 2011 we shall be fully co-educational.  The move saw the introduction of a new teaching model – “Together but Separate” – in which girls and boys are educated separately in core subjects such as English, Mathematics, Science and modern foreign languages whilst together for subjects such as History and Geography.

This innovative model which has been adopted by a number of leading independent schools across the country, allows for the necessary separation for academic success whilst also enabling the social preparation for life in university and beyond.

This year also saw  the introduction of vertical tutor groups comprised of students from all the year groups.  This new system will replicate with the school the principle of the extended family where everyone looks out for one another. The benefits of vertical year groups include more friends across the years, a reduction in bullying, a greater sense of house identity and the opportunity for younger students to be supported and helped by older students.

As children enter Senior School, our carefully planned and wide-ranging curriculum, delivered by highly qualified specialist subjects in small classes, challenge the pupils and help them discover for themselves areas in which they excel.

For pupils entering Key Stage 4 an innovative new scheme entitled, New Pathways, is in place to enhance the achievement of each student at GCSE.

There will be two pathways to GCSE success, each including core compulsory subjects and a broad and balanced menu of choices for students.  This new model, will allow us to further focus on individual needs and provide extra support for those students who struggle with core areas of the curriculum.

In addition to academic achievement, our pupils experience an extensive range of extra curricular activities, designed to broaden pupils experience and interests. Physical well being is also a priority - girls and boys will follow a healthy lifestyle programme which complements our comprehensive sports curriculum.

The Performing Arts are a particular strength of the school - Year 7 pupils are offered free instrumental tuition for the first term and there are ample opportunities to participate in the school choir, orchestras and award-winning drama productions.
