Prep Team ISA Midland Champions 2009!!!!!!

The Prep Cricket Team was victorious in the ISA Midland Cricket Competition on Wednesday 20th May. Priory remained undefeated for the whole tournament.
In the first game they defeated the hosting school, Highfields by 59 runs. Priory restricted Highfields to 195 and Priory the dominated the run chase scoring 254 runs.
The second game continued in the same fashion, as Priory again restricted the opponents, Greenholme to 195 runs and then scored a huge 288 runs. Luke Hammond, Suraj Kumar & Ganga Surdhar scoring sixes at will!
The third game proved a lot tougher for Priory, as Ruckleigh scored an extremely competitive 254 runs. But Priory batted excellently and easily reached the target with 2 overs to spare and ran out winners by 16 runs.
The fourth and final game was against another unbeaten team in St. Josephs. St. Josephs bowled exceptionally well and had Priory stranded on 234 with one over remaining but a Suraj Kumar onslaught saw him and Junayd Iqbal score 20 runs off the last over. Priory then bowled tightly and St. Josephs needed 20 runs off the last over, but Suraj Kumar took a diving catch off his own bowling to seal the victory.
Priory were crowned the winners and captain Ganga Surdhar was on hand to lift the trophy!
" I am hugely impressed with both the attitude and level of performance the team showed throughout the competition. All the boys contibuted to each victory and showed a huge amount of mental determination in winning the two final games. I am sure the boys will come to realise what a great achievement it is to be ISA Midland Champions!"
Prep Team Lose in Final by One Run!

Priory finished 2nd at Edgbaston Cricket Club on Friday and just missed out on quailfying for the County Finals. In the semi-final, Priory performed brilliantly to win by 23 runs. Luke Hammond and Suraj Kumar performed superbly well with the ball with Luke taking 3 wickets and Suraj taking two wickets. A solid batting display ensured an easy victory and a place in the final.
Heartbreak happened for Priory in the Final as they lost by one run! A good bowling display restricted St. Mary's to a score of 227. Some excellent batting from Suraj Kumar put Priory well on top after the first over but in the fifth over, Priory lost 4 wickets and Priory looked out of contention. But some huge hitting from Luke Hammond put Priory level and then Ganga Surdhar batted well and Priory were leading by four runs with two balls left. However, disaster struck as St. Mary's took a wicket and won by one run.
"All the team played really well and were unlucky to lose but it looks likely that the Priory Prep team will have an extremley successful season when the summer comes. The team was espicially well captained by GangaSurdhar who showed a great deal of responsibility."
