Scholarships and Supported Places Scheme
Achievement for All

Details of the scheme

Priory School welcomes pupils of all faiths and abilities and is committed to supporting and developing the unique talents of our pupils.

We are committed to widening access to our school through our Scholarships and Supported Places scheme so that many more children can benefit from a Priory education.

On entry to Year 3

Year 3 is a vital stage in a child's educational journey as they move into Key Stage 2 and begin to lay the foundations for success at 11+ and beyond.  At Priory School we offer:

  • Non-means-tested scholarships to children who demonstrate excellence in academic studies, sports and the performing arts.  Up to 20 % tuition fee reduction is guaranteed to any pupil achieving a scholarship standard, with higher awards subject to means-testing.
  • Means-tested supported places where a family's income is below £50,000 per annum.  At this stage in a child's education we are looking for rounded pupils who demonstrate good academic ability which will enable them to benefit from the opportunities provided at Priory School.

Families wishing to apply for a Scholarship or Supported Place into Year 3 should make an individual approach to our Pupil Relations Officer.

Candidates applying for a scholarship or supported place will be invited to spend the day at the school, in their appropriate year group, where they will be assessed for their academic ability.  Candidates applying for a sports or performing arts scholarship will also be asked to supply evidence of their ability and potential and will be required to demonstrate their abilities on their day visit at the school.

On entry into Year 7

Scholarships

Non means-tested scholarships are available to pupils entering Year 7 of our Senior School who display excellence in Sports, the Arts and Academic Studies.

Up to 20% tuition fee reduction is offered to any pupil achieving a Scholarship standard, with higher awards subject to means-testing.

Pupils and families who benefit from a Priory Scholarship must agree to abide by the terms and conditions of the Scholarship.

Anyone applying for a Scholarship for Year 7 MUST sit the entrance exam on the date specified on the School Calendar and must also have submitted their scholarship application prior to the entrance exam.

Following the entrance exam a date is set with each subject tutor for a scholarship assessment day.  The details of what is required of each student on the assessment day are contained in the scholarship application pack.

A limited number of means-tested Supported Places are available to pupils entering Year 7.

A Supported Place may be awarded to

Anyone applying for a Supported Place for Year 7 MUST sit the entrance exam on the date specified on the School Calendar and must also have submitted their Supported Place application prior to the entrance exam.

Supported Places are subject to annual review and are dependent upon good progress, behaviour and attitude to learning.

Bursaries

Priory School has a limited bursary fund from which one-off awards may be given to families of current pupils ONLY who find themselves in financial need.

Such bursaries are subject to means-testing and are given for a limited period of time.  The attitude to learning and behaviour of the pupil are also taken into consideration when awarding a bursary.

Pupils and families who benefit from a Priory bursary must agree to abide by the terms and conditions of the bursary.

Annual Review

All scholarships, supported places and bursaries are subject to annual review and continuation is dependent on the pupil’s satisfactory performance, behaviour and attitude to learning.

Confidentiality

The school respects the confidentiality of means-tested awards made to families and recipients are expected to do likewise.

In awarding any Scholarship, Supported Place or Bursary, the School will assess each case on its own merits. As the School has a duty to ensure that all financial support offered is well focused, other assets and factors, as well as current earnings, will be taken into consideration in determining the necessary level of support.  In addition, the level of awards made will be subject to the School's budgets and its ability to make such funds available.
