Pupils will deepen their knowledge and understanding of other Religious traditions and ways in which they seek to express care and concern for others. This is done through a study of other faiths and interfaith dialogue. There is also opportunity to search for and consider answers to the big questions in life.

Study visits, extra curricular and competitions

The RE department will also be running a number of trips this year including a spiritual retreat and visits to places of worship as part of our learning experiences. A visit to St Chads cathedral is planned in the autumn term. The department also runs a Prayer and Care group as part of the enrichment programme and pupils have the opportunity to enter competitions such as a whole school prayer writing competition and a Spirit in the Arts competition.

How do we assess student’s progress in Humanities?

Students work will be marked regularly according to our marking policy. Students will receive merit stamps and sticker as well as post cards home to reward their work. Every term students will be formally assessed in every subject: History, Religious Education and Geography.  As part of the assessment process students will complete a self evaluation sheet and set targets for progress. Students will receive feedback on their progress and attainment and will be given an indication of that level that they are currently performing at.  Students will also be set a target that they will be expected to work on. This will be monitored.

Key Stage 4

Religious Studies in Years 10 & 11 aims to develop awareness of issues of local, national and global concern and place them in a spiritual and moral context.  There is available a Full Course and Short Course GCSE option in Religious Studies.
