Tuesday 6th December:
Priory 13 - 2 St. Georges
The Year 9 football team set a new Priory School record when they demolished local rivals St Georges 13-2 last night. 4 goals from Easah, 2 from Hayden, Seth and Dean and a goal each from Ganga, Ash and Motheo secured a very comfortable victory. The boys played some very good football throughout with Dean Pither putting in a man-of-the-match performance from centre half.
Wednesday 23rd November:
Priory 4 - 2 Shrewsbury "B"
The Year 9 football team continued their recent run of good form with a comfortable win over Shrewsbury School yesterday. 3 goals from Esah Suliman and 1 from Hayden Ali were enough to secure a 4-2 victory. The best of the goals came from a corner that totally fooled the Shrewsbury defence. Esah went to take the corner and rolled his foot over the ball, moving it only a couple of inches, Hayden ran over to the ball and beat a defender and squared to Esah who fired home. The Shrewsbury team stood appealing believing Esah had not moved the ball, the referee shrugged off their claims as he clearly had and gave the goal. A fine piece of thinking well rewarded. The man of the match was Habib "Iniesta" Amin for an excellent all round performance in midfield.
Thursday 10th November:
Priory 5 - 4 Chase Academy
The Year 9 football team travelled to Chase Academy in Cannock yesterday and came away with a hard fought 5-4 victory. Priory started in bright fashion and took the lead after a mix up in the Chase defence allowed Hayden to roll the ball into an empty net. Priory got a second after Platini picked up the ball in his own penalty area, ran the full length of the pitch leaving a trail of defenders in his wake, before squaring the ball to Harry Batchelor who tapped the ball home. Platini got a third just before half time. The second half was a totally different story with Chase pulling two goals back, before Platini got his second and Priory's fourth. To their credit Chase would not lie down pulling a goal back with five minutes left and then getting a last minute equaliser. Chase were still celebrating what they thought was a draw when Platini was bundled to the ground forty yards from goal, he placed the ball on the ground and unleashed a thunderbolt into the roof of the net to secure the victory. Man of the match Platini Kamden.
Tuesday 11th October:
Priory 2 - 2 Repton
The Year 9 "A" team put up a great fight in gaining a 2-2 draw against a very good Repton team on Tuesday. Priory started very well and created two excellent chances before finally taking a well deserved lead, when Hayden Ali latched on to a pinpoint pass from Platini, he then rounded the advancing Repton goal keeper and slammed the ball into an empty net. Repton then came back into the game scoring with a close range shot and a header either side of half time to take a 2-1 lead. Priory knuckled down and began to press for an equaliser, it came a few minutes from time when Platini was fouled 30 yards from goal, and up stepped Esah Suliman who calmly bent his free kick round the wall into the bottom corner. Hayden Ali missed a glorious chance to clinch an unlikely victory when firing straight at the Repton goal keeper from close range in the last minute. Well done boys!!!
Thursday 29th September:
Priory Finish 2nd at Midland ISA Competition.
- It was a case of close but not close enough for the Year 9 Football team at the ISA Midland tournament. Priory were deserved runners-up but had the talent to win the competition. Priory started the competition like a steam-roller, beating Bowbrook House (Worcester) 3-1, Heathfields (Kidderminster) 3-1 and Chase Academy (Cannock) 2-0. Captain Hayden Ali was prolific in front of goal and was clearly the best striker at the tournament scoring over a goal a game. The team then met eventual winners Stafford Grammar and despite taking the lead through a great header by Eahsah Sulliman a trio of errors allowed Stafford to win 3-2. The last game ended in a 1-1 draw with Dixie Grammar (Leicester). So 2nd place was well deserved and the team should be congratulated for playing some excellent football lead by Captain Hayden Ali and Easah Sulliman who oozed class throughout!
