Welcome to our school - a school which is very special to me. It’s special because of the way we view each child in our care. We believe passionately in the uniqueness of every individual. Each pupil has special gifts and talents. Our job is to nurture these gifts – to find out what your child CAN do, not what he or she can’t, to celebrate each success and applaud determination, commitment and effort.
It was the nuns of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus, founded by Cornelia Connelly, who opened the school on its present site in 1936. No longer run by the Society, the school changed its name to Priory School in 2001.
Like our founders, we continue to welcome children of all faiths and abilities within a Catholic tradition that ensures respect for the individual and delivers achievement for all.
This academic year marks an historic moment for our school as boys entered Year 7 of the Senior School for the first time and by 2011 we shall be fully co-educational.
With the new boys comes a new teaching model – Together but Separate – in which girls and boys are educated separately in the core subjects such as English and Mathematics, whilst together for subjects such as History and Geography.
Of course we're very proud of our academic results which makes us one of the top schools in Birmingham. However, what drives us is a commitment to delivering success for every child entrusted in our care.
We're as dedicated to providing the specialist support for children who struggle in the classroom with challenges such as dyslexia as we are to stretching the academically gifted to exceed their potential.
We are committed to widening opportunity and have introduced a new scholarship scheme to ensure more children can benefit from the Priory experience.
At Priory, academic life is complemented by our dedicated performing arts suite, our thriving sports programme and our extensive out of school clubs. Children also benefit from the school's 14 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, including an orchard and pond area, which provides a rich resource for lessons as well as a stunning backdrop for our summer performances and events.
Pupils are encouraged to participate in all aspects of school life, creating the self-confident and well-rounded individuals which are the hallmark of our school.
I do hope you enjoy visiting our website (do please take an audio visual tour with myself and the pupils) and do come and see us in action at one of our Open Days or make an appointment for a personal visit.
I look forward to meeting you.
